New Player Summaries

Shaun Grigg

190cm, 84kg, Dob: 19/04/88

Grigg was the first player added to our list after Richmond obtained Shaun in a right swap for Andrew Collins. After playing 43 games for Carlton Shaun requested a trade to the Tigers. The left footer provides Richmond with a hard running midfielder with the capability to break the lines.

Reece Conca

185cm, 79kg, Dob: 12/08/92

Conca was selected with Richmond's first pick, number 6 overall, in the National Draft. After watching Reece all season the recruiters notion he was one of the best players in the draft pool. The left footed midfielder has solid skills and the capability to run and carry the ball, add to this his excellent leadership skills and it seems we have quite the player.

Jake Batchelor

188cm, 79kg, Dob: 13/02/92

Batchelor was selected with Richmond's second pick, number 30 overall, in the National Draft. Jake spent 2010 playing for the Dandenong Stingrays and impressed as a defender who can lock down his opponents as well as supply run out of defence. Jake is someone else left footed youngster with a nice set of skills.

Brad Helbig

185cm, 79kg, Dob: 28/02/92

Helbig was selected with Richmond's third pick, number 47 overall, in the National Draft. While playing for West Adelaide in 2010, Brad won the Corey Siemens Memorial Award for being the Riverland Player of the Year. Helbig is someone else medium sized midfielder who knows how to find the ball and perhaps more importantly, knows how to use it.

Dean MacDonald

184cm, 87kg, Dob: 06/07/92

Macdonald was selected with Richmond's fourth pick, number 51 overall, in the National Draft. Dean played as a medium sized forward for Gippsland Power and ended up as their prominent goalkicker for the year, snagging 42 goals.

Tom Derickx

201cm, 100kg, Dob: 07/12/87

Derickx was selected with Richmond's fifth pick, number 63 overall, in the National Draft. Tom is a very large but very movable ruckman who is a slightly more mature pickup than the other kids picked in the National Draft. Derickx spent the year playing in the Wafl for Claremont where he obviously did sufficient to impress the Richmond recruiters.

David Gourdis

193cm, 93kg, Dob: 14/03/89

Gourdis was promoted to Richmond's senior list during this year's National Draft. David was originally selected as a forward by the Tigers in the 2008 pre-season draft but was then de-listed and rookied by the Tigers in the 2009 Rookie Draft. Since then Gourdis has transformed himself into a key backman with superb speed, something which eventually led to his Afl debut late in the 2010 season.

Bachar Houli

180cm, 84kg, Dob: 12/05/88

Houli was selected with Richmond's first and only pick, number 3 overall, in the pre-season draft. Despite James Hird's best efforts, Bachar made his intentions to join the Tigers very clear before and during trade-week after managing just 26 games in 4 seasons with Essendon. Despite no trade being able to be worked out in the middle of Richmond and Essendon, Houli still found his way to Punt Road during the pre-season draft. Bachar provides Richmond with someone else skilled player in Richmond's midfield as well as a bigger and more seasoned body to help safe the younger kids.

Ben Jakobi

186cm,?kg, Dob: 1991

Jakobi was selected with Richmond's first pick, number 11 overall, in the Rookie Draft. Ben spent the year at Coburg mainly playing with the reserves side and in case, granted run and neat skills out of the backline. After being invited down to train with both the Tigers and the Demons, Richmond felt he was an sufficient option for a Rookie spot.

Brad Miller

194cm, 94kg, Dob: 06/07/83

Miller was selected with Richmond's second pick, number 28 overall, in the Rookie Draft. Brad comes to Richmond as a Mature Age Rookie after spending 9 years on the Melbourne list. Miller will supply a bigger body in Richmond's forward line and enable the Tigers to have an sufficient backup if Riewoldt or someone else young forward goes down with injury. More importantly, Brad will be able to supply the young Tiger forwards and older mentor and someone to learn ideas from.

Tom Hislop

185cm, 85kg, Dob: 07/06/88

Hislop was selected with Richmond's third pick, number 45 overall, in the Rookie Draft. Tom found 2010 to be a difficult year at the Tigers, managing just three games for the season after injury himself early in the year. Hislop opted for early surgery and now finds himself on the Rookie list and ready to do the hard yards. Tom seems to know how to find the ball and is tough as nails in the Richmond forward line, the only knock on him is his poor kicking skills. Let's hope a near full pre-season will see Hislop come out all guns blazing in 2011.

Final Rookie Spot

New to this year's Afl Rookie draft was the option for clubs to leave an open spot on the Rookie list and allow no more than three players to be included in a training squad. These three players can then effort to gain the final spot on an Afl list with clubs able to name their player at any time up until the Nab Cup Grand Final week. The three players Richmond drafted onto their Training squad were Travis Casserly, Mitch Keddall and Liam Corrie.
